Progress is being made for two new recreation centers in Huntsville that will enhance the quality of life for all residents with more recreational opportunities in town!
About the Martin Road Recreation Center
One of the new recreation centers in Huntsville is in the early stages of development. More specifically, a brand-new rec center near the intersection of Martin Road and Zeirdt Road is in the design phase, according to reports.
Initially, the city council gave the administration the go-ahead to purchase about five acres on Martin Road in West Huntsville in February. Now, William M. Boehme & Associates Architects will take the first step in bringing the Martin Road Recreation Center to life.
Plans are expected to include two full-size gyms, office space, multi-purpose rooms, storage areas and more. Residents in West Huntsville can expect to see a finished product in late 2024 or early 2025.
About the John Hunt Park Recreation Center
Another upcoming recreation center in the city recently received approval from the Huntsville Planning Commission to move forward with plans to build it. Construction on the 53,000-square-foot John Hunt Park Recreation Center is scheduled to begin next year.
Plans for the John Hunt Park Recreation Center include 16 outdoor, lighted pickleball courts, four full-size gyms, two multi-purpose rooms, a fitness room, concession areas and more.
In fact, the pickleball courts will feature a pavilion and be designed for competitive play and tournaments. Not only will construction start next year, but it is expected to be complete within the year as well.
John Hunt Park Recreation Center will be located at 3035 Leeman Ferry Road on about 8.5 acres, just north of the newly-renovated Joe Davis Stadium. Read our past blog about the renovations to Joe Davis Stadium here.
